Treatment
The Bowen Technique is a soft tissue, fascial release therapy, which looks to relieve tissue tension and pressure in the soft tissues which occur as a result of, or contribute to injury/pain. Working predominantly the fascia (the layer between skin and muscle) to reflect through to the muscle, ligaments and tendons in the body, light touch moves are applied to release this tissue tension, allowing the body's natural healing processes to return to normal. The body heals itself well enough, but sometimes needs something just to point it in the right direction! Often the symptoms you may present with - the pain in the shoulder for example, may not necessarily be where the problem is coming from, so by working over the whole body rather than focusing in on one small area allows for a better chance of correction.
The treatment works over the whole body, and can be performed on skin or through light clothing. A period of a couple of days to a week is normally required by the body to make the necessary adjustments following the treatment. The severity and/or length of time the client has had the condition will determine the number of treatments required achieving a positive outcome, but invariably 2-3 sessions should be enough for positive changes to occur. Of course, in the treatment of any problem, the onus in Michael's treatment is placed very much on the client. Thirty minutes of treatment is not going to have a curing effect on any condition if the client is simply going to return to doing the same activity that caused the problem in the first instance. Careful guidance and suggestions, coupled with any exercises or further advice will be offered to accompany the treatment which is of course in the clients' best interest to follow!
Michael has treated a wide range of conditions, and in many cases with very good success. Low back pain and neck pain are still the most common complaints, as well as frozen shoulder and headaches. However, Michael has treated many different problems which don't necessarily fit the muscular-skeletal mould. Although not commonplace in the clinic, digestive problems, stress and even fertility issues have been addressed by Bowen treatments in the past - merely highlighting the versatility of the treatment and the profound effect it has on many different levels throughout the body.
